Limit of Some Function

Posted on in Blog
Hello and Welcome to the July 2017 posting of my blog,

Comments, feedback, and ideas for future blog postings are always welcome at sales@synchroerp.com and I’d like to hear from you. I can also be reached directly in the USA Texas at 800-323-2808 xt. 1.

Our own Simon Adlington came up with this month’s topic of formulas.

Long ago I had to endure countless courses in the realm of mathematics as I was pursuing my degree in computer science, a minor in psychology and ultimately an MBA.  During my long and storied career, I have put mathematics to good use at a chemical company and as well as at a foundry.  Calculus was my favorite math course, you know, the LIM of some function, call it X as it approaches zero from negative infinity…  The concept of why we cannot divide by zero always fascinated me.  Calculus explains this phenonium.

Within the SYNCHRO ERP software suite of modules, the metalcasters can create formulas for chemistry which can then be included within metal target specifications.   Calculus and Limits are obviously not supported, but trigonometric functions, pi, and ABSolute are supported amongst other functions.

This important feature is made available from

With element formulas, an unlimited number maybe created

A practical application of element formulas is the calculation of carbon equivalency as in this example.  NOTE:  There are differing formulas used in calculating carbon equivalency, this is just one example.

Once the formula has been defined and validated, it is then included in the target specifications definition.

With the automatic interface to the spectrometer, the spark results are automatically recorded within the software; negating the need to enter the results by hand.  Up to three sparks can be recorded.

Then, as production WIP and SCRAP are entered either through the main software modules, the SFDC – Shop Floor Data Collection module, or the tablet APP, complete traceability and traceback is provided through the batch traceability function.

Ok, that’s a wrap.  If your lab and metallurgical departments are not making use of any of these excellent features of the software, then by all means get in touch with us for additional information and training.  Remember, unlimited support is available for users that we have personally trained.  Training is available online and onsite.    Additionally, this topic is available for review through the user guides by pressing <F1> from within the software or visiting http://www.foundryerp.com/userguide1.html

Jean-Marie Darchicourt and myself hosted three webinars on this topic and are available on demand at:

Until next time, see you on down the road… and let’s be safe out there…
